Saving Internet Reports

Many producers find internet reports to be quick, simple and reliable. One important thing to remember about DHI Internet Reports, is that the reports for each test are only available on the Internet for three months. To keep your test information for longer than approximately three months, you must print the reports, OR save the information in an electronic format on your computer. This fact sheet provides step-by-step instructions on how to save your herd reports on your computer for future reference.

Set-up Step

Note: This step only needs to be done once. Once the folder is created it will remain on your computer.

A folder provides a unique saving location for your herd reports and keeps your herd reports organized and together. If you have never saved your reports before, please complete the following procedures:

You have just made the directory, or folder, called "DHI reports"on your C drive (also known as your computer's hard drive.) This folder will be used to store your internet reports.

Step 1 - Selecting Internet Reports to Download

When you visit the DHI web-site to access your Internet Reports, you receive a list of your test dates that have Internet Reports available for you to download. Remember, only reports created from tests done in the past 3 months will be listed. If you want to be able to view reports that are more than 3 months old, you must save the reports by following these steps:

From the list of test dates, click on the date you want to download. You will receive a window with the option to "Open", "Save" or "Cancel"

Step 2 - Saving Internet Report Files

Saving the files will allow you to retain more than three months of electronic test data as the Internet reports will remain saved on your computer.

Click "Save". The 'Save As' window will open. Click on the down arrow and a drop-down menu will open Click on 'C' drive Double click on the DHI reports folder (This is the folder you created in the SET-UP step.)

When you have the SAVE AS window open for the DHIREPORTS folder, we recommend you modify the file name to make the file easy to find in future and ensure the filename is unique. To do this:

Step 3 - Viewing Saved Herd Report Files

Once the file is saved to your computer it can be viewed immediately or whenever you wish. To view saved herd files: Click the "Start" Button at the bottom left of your computer screen and then click on "Run" In the "Run" window, type c:\dhireports exactly and click "Ok"

A window will open with the list of your herd files that you have saved. To open one of these files: Double-click on the filename you are looking for (eg. July 02). The file will be 'unzipped' and individual reports will be listed. Click on the desired report to view.

You will now only need to connect to the Internet to download and save the info for your next test.

NOTE: When you save your herd files, you are taking up hard drive space on your computer. These herd files are very, very small in size and there is NO need to be concerned about taking up space on your computer with old herd files. However, if you wish to purge old herd files, when viewing your list of files (previous step), right-click on the filename of the file you want to purge, choose Delete and then choose Yes to send the file to the Recycle Bin.
