Installation of Internet Reports Introduction The process of receiving your reports over the Internet has been designed to be very simple and user-friendly provided you have the necessary software installed. Once you have installed the software on your computer and have received your reports once or twice you may not need to refer to this manual again. This manual has two main sections. The first section consists of the steps to install the software required on your computer, which only needs to be completed once. The second section explains how to receive your reports from the DHI website, view and perhaps print those reports. To access your DHI Internet Reports you need a computer with the following: Minimum Pentium 200 Mhz processor Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP Minimum 16 MB RAM (memory) Minimum 10 MB hard disk space Internet connection via cable or modem (Minimum 28.8K) Web browser Internet Explorer version 5 or Netscape Navigator version 4
The updated versions of the web browser software can be downloaded (no charge) from the following websites. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.asp Netscape Navigator 7.1 http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/default.jspAdobe Acrobat Reader (can be obtained free via DHI website - installation instructions included in this manual) PowerArchiver Software (can be obtained free via DHI website - installation instructions included in this manual) OR WinZIP Software Printer (optional, only required if you want your reports printed) It is not recommended to proceed without the above minimum hardware/software requirements. Standards Items that appear on the screen will be written in italics Example: web address Items to be typed or items to click on will be written in bold Example: 12345 The special keys to be used will be written in CAPS and in square brackets [ ] Example: [ENTER] Definitions Adobe Acrobat Reader Software: Computer software that enables you to view and print documents exactly as the writer/creator wanted you to see them (similar to a fax machine). This software is provided free of charge and can be downloaded via the Internet. DHI Internet reports can only be viewed with this software. PDF (Portable Document Format): A file format used by Adobe Acrobat for sending and viewing documents on the Internet. DHI Internet reports are produced in this format. PowerArchiver Software: Computer software that compresses electronic files to make them smaller so they can be sent over the Internet more quickly. This software is provided free of charge and can be downloaded via the Internet. DHI reports are compressed and will need to be decompressed to be viewed. Win Zip Software: Computer software that compresses electronic files to make them smaller so they can be sent over the Internet more quickly. DHI reports are compressed and will need to be decompressed to be viewed. Download and install required software Adobe Acrobat (FREE OF CHARGE)
PowerArchiver (FREE OF CHARGE) OR Win Zip ($29US) Adobe Acrobat download now (Required program) PowerArchiver download now (Required program and free or choose WinZIP) WinZIP download download now (Optional program but requires licensing fee) The following steps in this manual will guide you through the downloading and installation of the PowerArchiver and Adobe Acrobat Reader software. You are required to complete this process ONCE ONLY! Note: Instructions and screen demonstrations in this manual have been done with the Internet browser "Microsoft Internet Explorer". If you are using a different Internet browser, example "Netscape Navigator", the screen demonstrations may be different but the steps to follow will be similar. Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.05c Installation (Install Once) This installation process is required if you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader version 4.05c (or greater) installed on your computer. If you are unsure of the existence of the software or the version, please follow the download and installation instructions below regardless. After a few seconds the File Download window will appear, see below. (The file that will download is 5.6MB in size therefore your download time may be quite lengthy depending on your connection speed to the Internet, for example a 56K modem download will take approximately 25 minutes. Slower modems will take more time. Be patient and remember that you have to do this only once!) Select Open, as seen below.

When the installation is complete, click OK in the window below.
Please close Adobe Acrobat Reader. PowerArchiver Installation (Install Once) This installation is required only if you do not have PowerArchiver or WinZip compression software installed on your computer. To verify whether or not WinZip is installed on your computer, click on the 'Start' button, WinZip would appear above 'Programs' at the top of the Start button menu. If you have WinZip installed on your computer, you do not need to install the software in the steps below, go to section 5 of this manual. If you do not already have WinZip, on the www.canwestdhi.com website, select Internet Reports, then select signing up for internet herd reports, then select the PowerArchiver download now link, you will see the window below.
Click on Save. You will see the window below. Beside filename (see below) type the following: C:\windows\desktop\powarc61.exe
The file that will download is 1.7MB in size therefore your download time may be quite lengthy depending on your connection speed to the Internet, for example a 56K modem download will take approximately 10 minutes. Once the download is complete, close your Internet connection, and please restart your computer. On the Windows desktop you will notice a new icon for PowerArchiver, see below.
In the Setup - Information window, click Next, as seen below.
In the Setup - Select Destination Directory window, click Next to accept the default install location, see below.
In the Setup - Ready to Install window, click Install to begin the installation, as seen below.
When the installation is complete, you will see the window below, click Finish.
A configuration window may appear, click Ok in that window, then close the PowerArchiver window. Using internet reports initial setup (complete once!) This initial process describes the creating of a folder (directory) on your computer to download the Internet reports to. This new folder will be referenced in the documentation that follows. This initial setup to create this new folder only needs to be completed ONCE on your computer. In Windows, click on the Start button, then Programs, then MS DOS Prompt. You will see a window similar to the following, (wording may not be exact).
md c:\dhireports And press the [ENTER] key. When you return to the prompt, type the following: exit And press the [ENTER] key. The above setup only needs to be completed once. Your computer is now ready to retrieve DHI reports! After each test you only need to follow the steps outlined in section 6 below. Using internet reports A window with the following information will appear.
Select your Contact Type and Province and type your Contact Number and PIN#. (Your access information should be listed on the back page of this document, if not it can be obtained from your CSR/Field Technician or by calling our Customer Service Desk at 1-800-549-4373.) Click on Submit. Upon successful validation, a screen similar to the one below will be displayed.
You will also notice that the Test Date is 'underlined' indicating the link to that herd file for that test date. Click on the test date for the corresponding reports you wish to access. You will see a File Download window, see below.
You have the option to view the file (to print) or save it to your computer for future reference. To VIEW, click Open. To SAVE, click Save. It is advantageous to save the file for that test date on your computer for future reference of those files. If you decide to Save, the Save As window appears, see below, please change the File name: to the following: C:\dhireports\testdatereport.zip
Where testdate corresponds to the date your herd was tested. SEE EXAMPLE BELOW. Click the Save button. When the download is complete you may disconnect from the Internet. (Download time will be dependant on the herd size.) In Windows, click on the Start button, and click Run. In the Run window, type the following: c:\dhireports
A window will appear similar to the following. You may see icons listed instead of a list. The list that is displayed in the window above will include all the herd report files you have downloaded. To open one of the files, double-click on the file. A window will appear similar the one below. (You may see icons instead of a list.)
In the window above you will see a list of your reports. (See back page of this booklet for report descriptions.) Double click on any file to open that file. The reports are in PDF format, therefore Adobe Acrobat Reader opens and displays the report, see sample below.
Once rotated, the report will be displayed as below.
To view another report, close the window above and double-click on another file (report). If you wish to print your reports, click on the print button on the tool bar (button shown below).
That's it! Remember that if you provide your email address to your CSR/Field Technician, after each test you will automatically receive an email notification when your reports are ready.
