laboratory technologist : guelph

CanWest DHI is currently accepting applications for a Laboratory Technologist working out of our Guelph lab.

We require an individual who meets the following requirements:

Experience working in an accredited laboratory/familiarity with ISO 17025
Experienced in aseptic technique, and microbiological methodology
Familiarity with basic lab equipment such as pipettes, vortexes, graduated cylinders, spectrophotometers, centrifuges, balances, hot plates, and clean hoods
Familiarity with PCR and ELISA technologies is an asset.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel
Strong verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
A University Science Degree or College Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology

The major responsibilities of the position will involve:

1. Conducting routine laboratory tests on milk samples, following approved test procedures.
2. Performing non-technical lab duties related to the analysis of milk samples.
3. Assisting in staff training and development.
4. Performing clerical duties as required and performing other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on, highly motivated individual, with the ability to work well with others, along with three to five years experience in a laboratory and service environment. This individual should also be alert and accurate, with manual dexterity, and strong eye-hand coordination required for pipetting small amounts of liquids (microlitres).

DISTRICT MANAGER: SOUTH WESTERN ONTARIO

Working from your home office, ideally located in the Drayton/Palmerston/Listowel area, you will be responsible to manage and lead the sales, support and delivery of DHI and Herd Management Software services to dairy farmer and Advisor clients throughout the territory.

The major responsibilities of the position will involve:

Direct sales and promotions of DHI products and services, with the objective to grow market share and develop customer loyalty.
Direct sales, installation and support of Dairy Comp Herd Management Software. A key responsibility will be to assist customers to understand and effectively utilize Dairy Comp information and features, to improve overall herd management and herd profitability.
Supervision of 23 DHI Field Staff.

You are a hands-on, highly motivated individual, with three to five years experience in a sales and service environment. You have the ability to deliver effective sales strategy, and you have a thorough understanding of dairy herd management practices. You also possess experience in personal computer software and/or hardware.

In addition, you will have a University degree or diploma, preferably in Agriculture, and superior communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of the dairy industry and an understanding of dairy herd management practices are important. Staff supervisory experience will be considered an asset.
